Oh, deer

How many of you live with the 'eating machine' of neighboring deer? For me, I on one hand love their beauty and grace, but on the other hand, hate the destruction they incur on so many of the plants I find demolished after a feeding frenzy.

SOME DEER'RESISTANT'PLANTS

From the upper left, continuing clock-wise: enkianthus, phlomis, lavender, berberis, alchemilla mollis, digitalis, amsonia, and euphorbia

Keep in mind in purchasing plants for your landscape that deer tend to avoid: thorny (except roses and raspberries); fragrant flowers or leaves (again except roses); furry and fuzzy leaves.

HOME-MADE RECIPE FOR SPRAYING ON DEER-LOVING PLANTS

In a blender mix the following 6 ingredients:
Mix 1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
1 TBSP Tabasco sauce
1 TBSP vegetable oil
1 TBSP joy dishwasher soap
with a sprig of rosemary in with 1 gallon of water.
Spray on plants; and repeat as needed.  Especially after a rainfall or periods of new growth.

We can learn to coexist with our doey-eyed neighbors without too much frustration.  Hopefully.

Cheers,

Laura
