So spring is coy and fickle . . .

Yes, we are facing perhaps another snowstorm.  Do not let the pilot light of the gardener in you blow out.  There is a refuge for us indoor gardeners.   Yes, I am talking about seeds.  I am determined to tap into my youth and grow perennials from seed.  Its' cheap, and hey, I get my fingers in the soil to boot.  Cannot beat that.

Love your blog title! A friend sent me marigold seeds for flowers she says are burgundy and gold. I only know of the orange ones so can't wait to see these. How should I sow them indoors?

Dear BTA,

For marigolds, you can plant them in jiffy (pulp) containers now, and sow them about an inch deep. Then you want to water it thoroughly, cover with saran wrap (too increase humidity and germination). If the weather does not provide enough sun light (Can't imagine that:)) put a light by the seeds. Mist the seeds about once a day and place by a windowsill. Once the seeds have germinated, it is safe too remove the saran wrap. Happy seed growing!!
