Oh dear, 'deer.'

Each year I have high aspirations of growing beautiful roses.   This in itself would be a considerable feat considering our finicky weather without the added factor of our ravenous neighbors the 'deer family.'  There are four generations now of these beautiful animals.  Now don't take me for a softy.  I have a love/hate relationships with these neighbors.  On one hand, the new young ones are just so darn cute as they jump sprightly from one flower bed to the next, and of course, the other hand has to do with the damage they inflict on our coveted perennials.  They tend to dine on the geraniums for their main meal while sampling the side course of hostas or any new growth only too complete the meal off with le creme' de menthe assorted roses.
And once in a long while, we the 8 point buck will grace us with his regal presence.

But, I digress.  My strategy for dealing with our 'deer neighbors' is too the old bait and switch.  I resign myself too the fact that they will no doubt eat our geraniums and hostas, but each year I find plants that the deer dislike.  As for the dessert, I have a six foot wire fence around the roses, and am slightly optimistic for some cut roses.  Check back in a month.  Oh, deer. . .
