Bliss-filled Summer

I must admit there is a bit of sadness and nostalgia which accompanies the climax of the season. As intoxicating it is to view the flowers in full throttle, I can sense autumn in: flowering hardy cyclamen, and the coolness creeping into the early dusk.

Having said this, let us enjoy the summer fireworks.

This was the first year we could view this hydrangea from a distance.  A lesson I learned about deer,  keep the new growth of hydrangeas pruned up high so they are less likely to be able to reach it.
'Grace' smoke tree is secretly my favorite smoke tree.  How can you resist red, purple, and blue blended into one plant.  But, please don't even whisper this secret to the 'Royal Purple' smoke tree.

Confession, I am still head over in plant lust with this little darling.  It professes to obtain a stature of a mere 6-10 ft tall and 4-6 ft wide.  But it is the soft yellow needles I am ga-ga over.

This yellow hot beauty continually amazes me.   It takes the hottest sun, is evergreen and blooms when you have completely given up all hope to do so.  Did you know that it is in the aloe family and that the blossoms are favorites of nectar feeding hummingbirds and butterflies?  These tough beauties entice visits by these jeweled flying beauties.

Thank you for visiting, and remember to water.

    Cheers,
