Fall into 'Elk Rock'

Aside from the picturesque views at Elk Rock, I really enjoy the fact that so many of the shrubs and trees are labeled with not only their name, but also from what family they belong too.   I was surprised that the witch hazel was in the same family as the tree, Parrotia persica and also with the shrub, Disanthus cercidifolius.

Before I visited 'Elk Rock', I was unaware of this beautiful shrub, Disanthus cerciphyllum.  Now, I know one can put it in partial shade and enjoy the hot red foliage in fall.

My infatuation with this garden dates back over 15 years ago.  Back then, I was asked to produce an drawing of a garden we enjoyed visiting.  From memory, I came up with this watercolor rendering of the riverbed and bridge which left an visual and emotional impression on me.
Every visit, I find something new to be inspired by.  So do yourself a favor, 'fall into Elk Rock'.  You'll be glad you did.

Cheers,

Laura
