WHAT IS IT?
Great Plant Picks (GPP) is an educational plant awards program of outstanding plants for the maritime Pacific Northwest. To date, over 800 exceptional plants have been selected for gardeners living west of the Cascade Mountain range from Eugene, Oregon to Vancouver, British Columbia.
WHY TAKE IT INTO CONSIDERATION?
The sole purpose of this program is to make any gardener living along the Pacific Northwest a success. Instead of reinventing the wheel to know if a certain plant performs well in our climate, simply look up on the GPP website too check.
Their combined wisdom is channeled toward coming up with a list of plants that fit strict criteria, such as availability, pest-resistance and non-invasiveness.
I don't know about you, but I love the idea that if a plant is on this list, it is going to thrive. WTG GPP's!
WHAT'S NEW FOR 2012?
Plants with gorgeous foliage;
Trees, shrubs, and perennials that perform well in shade;
Plants that perform well in sun and are drought tolerant.
Just because it's scientific doesn't mean it has to be boring.
OTOH, you can live in zonal denial and buy that plant that is interesting looking and roll the dice. IMO I'd like to have my choices whittled down a bit, and spend my money on a somewhat sure thing.
